The Fugdi dance has unique formations, including circles and rows, where women sing and dance in unison. The performance begins at a slow pace, gradually increasing in speed and culminating in a lively climax. The absence of musical instruments enhances the connection among dancers, as they produce rhythmic sounds by blowing air through their mouths, creating a distinct “FOO” sound. This unique vocalization gives the dance its name- Fugdi, or Foogdi. The choreography includes fixed steps, expressive hand gestures, and coordinated movements, creating a visually captivating performance. Dancers often perform various hand formations, which are integral to the dance.

Women adorn themselves in colorful sarees, often accompanied by a knot on their right shoulder, symbolizing tradition and cultural pride. They may also tie a white dupatta around their waist, adding elegance to their attire. A notable variant of the Fugdi dance is Katti Fugdi, where women dance while holding coconut shells in their hands. This variation adds an element of playfulness and creativity, showcasing the versatility of the dance form.
